The Life and Times of Herbert Orange

Son, I will document your life here in secret. Though it is a part of my website, I'll keep it hidden. Only I will know it's here. When you get old enough, probably your late teens, you might want to know more about your childhood. Lord willing, I'll be able to answer most questions myself. But if my brain should start to fog up by the time you get around to asking, then I'll feel good knowing this is here for the both of us. What kinds of questions, you ask? I don't know. When you first noticed your feet, perhaps. Which, at the time of this writing, you haven't yet. You'll be two months old in 10 days. I hope you get as much joy out of looking back on this in the future as I am out of writing it.

Love you, Err-Bear :)

My age - 28 going into 29.

Your dad's age - 33 going into 34.

MILESTONES

Year One

  • 10/18/16 - You looked at me for the very first time. Not in my general direction, but at ME. And you smiled. Just for me.
  • I didn't document the day, but in your third month of life, you discovered your feet.
  • You crawled for the first time when we moved into the apartments at Windrush. The moment we set you down on the carpet - the living room still completely empty. I laid down and you crawled to me.

Year Two

  • I've started buying you flowers. You destroy them with the sort of glee I hope creating things brings you one day.
  • You can walk and run and jump, even. Your speech is very much like a prerecorded message of all the things you enjoy watching -
Paw Patrol, PBS Kids Games, Ready Jet Go, Little Baby Bum, etc.
  • You realized you love popsicles and chocolate.

Year Three

  • You had your three year wellness check long after your birthday. You weigh about 68lbs and you're nearly 3 1/2 feet tall.
  • You can play catch now. You're very good at throwing things.

Year Four

  • I'm so sorry I haven't kept up with this. Life has been so busy. You are four now and you are still waiting on your Year Four Wellness Check and Shots. You are nearly four feet tall and 80 some odd pounds. You're large and strong and sweet and beautiful.
  • We are seeing about having you evaluated. Some aspects, you are way ahead of kids in your age group, others you are a bit behind.
  • I love you. Always.
